Create a Rule to Trigger off of the Answer to a Form Question

Location: Marketing Automation/Rules -> Click New

Overview: You can create a rule that will trigger off a specific answer to a specific question in a form. This is true for standard form questions as well as custom contact field questions. This can come in handy when you want to categorize and communicate with contacts who have indicated a specific area of interest or answered yes or no to a question you have provided in a form.

How to Create a Form Field Answer Rule Using Custom Contact Field Question

  1. Go to Marketing Automation/Rules -> Click New
  2. Give the rule a name
  3. In the When This Happens or Select Trigger Menu Choose Form – Filled Out
    1. Choose Specific Form
    2. Select the Form
  4. Next in the Conditions or If This Is Ture menu, select Form Field – Contact Has Entered Specific Value
    1. Next a list of questions that are in the form will come into view. Select the Question you want to trigger the rule off of.
    2. The rule editor will then refresh and show the question with the available answers. You will then need to select the answer to the question that this rule will be triggered off of.
  5. Then fill out the Them Do This or Select Action menu by selecting the action or actions you want to have happen based on the logic of the rule. Some common actions are: add contact to a category, add contact to a sequence etc.
  6. Last, make sure the rule status is set to Active and Save and Close.

Note:  You will need  one rule per question per answer, so if you have a three answer question, you will want three rules one to correspond to each possible answer to the question.
