Create a New Course from a Course Template

Location: Learning Management/Courses/Click New -> Copy from a Course Template Button

Overview: You can create a course from a course template you’ve created and saved as found in the Course Templates finder. This can be a good way to create new courses if you want a clean version of that course’s foundational content that you have already set up and prepped for duplication.

Steps to Create a New Course from a Course Template:

  1. Go to the Courses Finder under the Learning Management section of the Account Manager
  2. Click New
  3. Choose the option to Copy a Saved Course Template
  4. In the new iteration of the Course, type in the name you want to use for the course and add, remove or modify any content or settings you will need for the new instance of the course.
  5. When done click Save and Close

Good To Know:

What Gets Copied into the Course or a Course Template when you click to Copy a Course or Saved Course Template or click Duplicate?

What is saved into the Course or Course Template when copied?

Most fields from the original course get saved into the course  or course template when copied. It is good to note that most associated content will be the exact same content and thus exact same content ID number such as: associated documents, videos, and audios. We do not create copies of those objects.

However, we DO create copies of the actual chapter, content, event, and other course modules so that you can be free to modify and change those in the template without having to worry about changing the original course.

What does not get saved into the Course or Course Template when copied?

Currently, we do not save any Announcements, Notes, Registrations, and the Waitlist does not get saved into a course template as they are considered to be instance specific. We also do not save the Teacher association as we assume this may be course instance specific as well.
