Add Categories, Member Groups and Other Info to Contact Record

Overview: There are many types of Rules you can create. In the previous chapter we covered adding the Contact to a Sequence to send automated follow-up emails. In this chapter we will look at a variety of other Rules that you can implement to help automate tasks as related to your Contacts.

Why would I need to add Categories or Member Groups to my Contacts?

To keep in touch with your prospects:

For instance Rules can be useful if you need to identify a group of Contacts who filled out certain forms. You can create a Rule to automatically assign a Category based on filling out a Form as one way to effortlessly accomplish this.

When your Contacts are assigned Categories, you can then create a Query List in Contacts based on a common Category assignment and use this list to export, send email broadcasts to, etc. This can be great for up-sell marketing and keeping an ongoing communication with your prospects.

To managing your members and their privileges:

Another example is having a Rule to assign a Member Group to a Contact. This is important when you want to give your Members access to secured website pages, and/or access to a directory listing they they can update. It can also be needed if you want to add member discounts on Products Events or Courses. And of course you can also build Contact and Email lists based off of Member Groups as well.

Is there a limit to the amount of Actions I can do in a single Rule?

Not really. You may have relatively complex needs when it comes to your Marketing Automation and we are designed to handle that.

For instance you may need a rule that does all of the following:

  • Adds Contact to a Category
  • Adds Contact to Member Group
  • Adds Contact to Welcome Sequence
  • Adds Registers Contact for Free Course
  • Send an Email to Staff alerting them of the new Contact
  • and more...

 Basically if you can think it up, it’s likely we can do it with Rules.
