Link to a Website URL

Overview: Create a link using a Website URL. This can be an off-site link, or a Permalink to an object within your website content.

How to Link to an External Website or Permalink

Summary: You can paste or type in a URL that points to any website on the internet by using “Website” as the link type in the “Link To” menu.

Important Notes:

  • The http:// prefix is required so we provide that for you. If you paste in a link that already includes that prefix you can delete or paste over our auto-fill prefix to ensure it does not appear twice.
  • The www part of a URL can sometimes be optional, so the editor does not enforce it.
  • Also, you may want to consider if you want your link to another website to open in a new window.

To create your URL type link, follow these steps:

  1. In a Content Editor, highlight the text or select an image that you want to become a link.
  2. Click on the “Add Link” tool in the tool set.
  3. This brings up the Insert Link dialog.
  4. Find and open the “Link To” menu and make sure that “Website” is selected from the list.
  5. Next in the Insert Link dialog, find the URL field that we have pre-populated it with the prefix http:// and type or paste in your link in that field.
  6. Check formatting: ensure that your URL maintains the correct http:// prefix formatting after you type in or paste the URL. Note The www part of a URL can sometimes be optional, so the editor does not enforce it.
  7. You may want to set the Website Link to open in a new window. To do this select, “Open in a New Window” option in the “Target” menu.
  8. Click the “Save” button to finalize the link.
