Link to a Document on your Website

Overview: Create a link to a Document file such as a PDF, Word Doc, PowerPoint, etc. that you have uploaded to your website.

How to Link to a Document on your Website

Summary: A link to a Document will either display or offer a link to download/view a document that has been uploaded to your website.

It’s important to note that the file type and settings on the web visitor’s computer and browser will determine the behavior of the link. There is no setting to control how the links are handled within our link tool interface. For instance, a PDF will open in the visitor's default PDF reader where as a Microsoft Word document may prompt a download option.

  1. In a Content Editor, highlight the text or select an image that you want to become a link.
  2. Click on the “Add Link” tool in the tool set.
  3. This brings up the Insert Link dialog.
  4. Find and open the “Link To” menu and select “Document” from the list.
  5. This launches the Document Associate Finder where you can sort or search by name etc. to find the Document you would like to link to.
  6. Once you find the Document in the list click the “Select” button.
  7. This brings you back into the Insert Link dialog
  8. It is customary to set the Document to open in a new window. To do this select “Open in a New Window” option in the “Target” menu.
  9. Click the “Save” button to finalize the link.
