Article Editor – Name Field

Overview: The name field of an article, or sometimes referred to as the article title, is a required type-in text field where you can enter the name of the article as you wish to call it. 

How is the article name field used?

Internal Reference

This field is mainly used for internal reference to help you identify what the article is when browsing or searching within the article finder.

Public View on the Website

There are times when the name of the article is visible to the public on the website–such as when utilizing alternate article display methods. One example of an alternate article display method is presenting a list of articles on a page using only their title with a link to the full body content. In this case, the name filed of the article is used as the linked text for the title in that display method.

Another instance where the title of an article may be visible is in a search results list. If an article is set to be searchable on website wide search, then it will show in a list of results on a page, and the name of the article will be displayed with the name presented as a link to the full body content.

It may be best to give an article a name that is suitable for public use as a default. However, if you are sure that the article is set to not show in the website search, and is not being used in an alternate display, it may be fine to use a more shorthand approach to naming an article such as appending suffixes to denote dates or version numbers etc.

Links to Articles

It is good to know that the Full Partner system does not rely on the name of the article for any links created to it. We use the auto-generated id number as the static reference for the link to any object in our system. So, as long as you are not using an alternate article display method to present your article on a page, you can feel free to name the article anything you prefer. Also, to that point, you can change the name of the article without breaking any links to it.
