Set Custom Contact Fields in Website Settings

Location:

  • Set the custom fields in: Website Management/Website Settings Editor/Contact Section -> Custom Fields
  • Use the Custom fields in: Contact Editor and Contact Displays, Forms, and Rules

Overview: You can utilize custom contact fields in your website forms and/or in the My Account form that can populate or update a contact record when filled out. These custom fields will need to be pre-defined by you and set at the website settings level. Once the custom fields are set, it is best not to change them as they are intelligently referenced by system in several locations to help you work to automate ongoing tasks.

Read More Below:

Locations where the system references the custom fields you set in the website settings include:

  • Contact Editor/Profile Information
  • My Account/My Profile Section
  • Form Questions/Contact Type Questions
  • Rules/Condition - Filled Out Specific Form Fields
  • Contact/Profile Displays
  • Contact Gallery
  • Contact Import Screen

Some examples where custom contact form fields can be used:

To Populate or Update Profile Displays – Capture custom fields to store in the contact record to present in a contact profile display such as a faculty directory, business directory, vendor mall, etc.

To Build Targeted Marketing Campaigns – Capture custom fields to store in the contact record and trigger rules to apply categories and add to sequences to help build your target marketing lists.

To Update A Contact’s Info in the Database - Use a form instead of the My Account to capture or update contacts information you have on file. This method works similarly to the already ready to go My Account contact form but is presented in any page of your website you place it, and in the context of a website form environment where you can ask more varied and customized questions.

*Note that for the update to take place, the form will need to be on a password protected page, so you will want to ensure that the contact has at least the Customers member group and the page the form is placed on is secure to that member group.
